Luciano and Angel loading burros at Cashapampa

We contacted a trekking company in Huaraz (Pyramid) to arrange to have our gear packed into base camp, and hired a guardian to stay at our base camp while we climbed (we had heard of unattended base camps being cleaned out). This was very easy to arrange, we didn't plan any of this before entering Huaraz.

The trekking company drove us to Cashapampa, the start of the trek in. The next day we met Luciano, our base camp guardian (left) and Angel (right), the arriero (burro driver). This is a mammoth "Wild Things Mule Bag" being loaded onto one of the 5 burros for the trip up to basecamp.
